Approximately, 17 km South East of the Kashmir ruby deposit,
isolated in the
glacial riddled, jigged speaks of the central Himalayas, in
Grace valley area, gem quality green, pink, bi-color tourmaline
has been discovered in pegmatite rocks. In the peaks overlooking Janawai village in the Neelum Valley, at the altitude of
12000ft. (3600 meter) above sea level, the granites pegmatite
has produced a wide variety of tourmaline and related minerals.
Bi-color crystals along with pink and green specimens,
reminiscent of the world renewed Afghanistan tourmaline, have
been recovered in significant quantities. A full range of gem
grade, carving material and fine mineral specimens are being
mined from this pegmatite.
Spessartine
Wowing to unique orange color, generally termed mandering
garnet, the
manganese
garnet is the most
precious variety of the
garnet family. Yellowish orange, orange red and wine colored
manganese has been discovered near village followai, Neelum
Valley, distt. Neelum.
The gemstone occurs in the contact zone
of pegmatite with basaltic andesite intruding the migmatite
complex of the Higher Himalayan crystalline.
Morganatic & Topaz
In grace valley as well as Donga Nar pegmatite, the pinkish
variety of bery1 called morganatic and crystals of topaz have
been discovered associated with the tourmaline.
